This year will see us making an effort to enter some competitions to get the recognition we keep being told we deserve.... we're a bit shy!

Quote from Lembit about our First of the Summer Waen's visit to the House of Commons.  No more in cask now till next spring.....

"The green hops of recovery are beginning to show in Montgomeryshire thanks to the Waen Brewery. I'm really pleased to help Waen Brewery to make this landmark breakthrough in reaching Westminster. This guarantees that scores of MPs around the UK will get the chance to savour the last of the Summer Waen.

"It's a great beer and a superb liquid ambassador for our county!"

A great time was had at The House of Commons when we went to pull the first pint of our ale!

LOCAL MICROBREWERIES READY TO TAKE ON THE REST AT WELSH FOOD FESTIVAL

Montgomeryshire’s two local microbreweries are preparing to impress visitors at the Welsh Food Festival at Glansevern Hall this year.  Waen and Monty’s Breweries will each have a stall at the festival, and will be offering their beer to festival visitors.  This is the first year that two breweries from Montgomeryshire will be at The Welsh Food Festival, and with two brewsters (that’s female brewers) to boot!

Sue Hayward, of Waen Brewery, in Penstrowed near Newtown, says:

“Waen Brewery has been producing real ales since early 2009 and all the ales brewed are vegetarian and vegan friendly as no fish derivitives are used to clear the beers - just time and patience!  It’s also a real family affair.  Even my two children, Oscar and Hermia, help with bottling and fermenter cleaning!

“We attend a lot of food fairs and festivals with our bottled ales but we are particularly looking forward to the Welsh Food Festival at Glansevern, as it a local event.  Our ever popular First of the Summer Waen and Landmark Waen summer ales will of course be there, along with four more, including Fuggle Hop and our new Barley Waen!  I’m sure that visitors to the Welsh Food Festival will really appreciate the extra effort that goes into our ales.”

Pam Honeyman of Monty’s Brewery, in Hendomen near Montgomery, says:

“Monty’s has brewed several beers to offer the discerning beer-drinker!  Monty’s Sunshine is my award-winning golden, hoppy ale which will be on sale in bottles at Glansevern.  Desert Rats is my summer special which is blonde and dry and citrus, which is only available for a limited time.  Monty’s Mojo and Moonrise are available all year and our new seasonal ales are in the pipe line.

“I am so proud to be one of the people who have brought real ale back to Montgomeryshire.  The tide definitely seems to be turning in mid-Wales, with more pubs wanting to sell real ales over other beers, so here's to a successful future for both Waen and Monty’s.”

Lembit Öpik, MP for Montgomeryshire, says:

“I’m proud to support Waen and Monty’s Breweries presence at the festival.  Pam at Monty's and Sue at Waen are working hard alongside each other to bring hand crafted real ales to the people of Wales and the UK.  I’ve sampled the beers from both breweries and I can tell you that their locally-produced ales certainly compete with what else is on the market.  I hope the Welsh Food Festival bring people’s attention to the great local beers being brewed in the region.  Cheers!”

We are a little tearful today..... our ale is in The Square and Compass, Worth Matravers, for a beer festival.  Very touching.  Dad would be proud..... even if it may not be our best summer ale (oh the joy of plastic casks popping in the delivery van...)
